I've not seen tongue thrust in infants after frenotomy, nor have I read
any evidence that it occurs. Tongue thrust is usually due to low muscle
tone, according to the OT and speech literature. Anything that
increases muscle tone can help - vibration to the tongue (mom can hold a
vibrating teether toy in her hand while she lets baby suck her finger),
gentle massage to the tongue, etc.
Catherine Watson Genna, IBCLC NYC (who also experiences the "problem
du jour" phenomenon)
