Molly,

I was in a similiar situation to your friend/client. In my third trimester I
was diagnosed with breast cancer. Chemo was started almost immediatly with
a break before induction at 38 weeks. I did chose to breastfeed my baby
until I had to start chemo again about a week later. I then pumped to
maintain my supply and started breastfeeding again three months later when
chemo finished. Surgery was perfomed after chemo was finished.

This does not answer your question, but perhaps the mother could go this
route and not and not have to add the pain and sadness of not breastfeeding
to an already horrible situation.

If you have any questions or want more details please feel free to contact
me privately.

Best wishes to both of you,
Malka Eitan, IBCLC
