Wow, what a case. I hope this does not sound sacreligious (sp?) to
lactnetters but I think I would recommend mainly feeding ebm by whatever is
the easiest method (mom chooses) or most beneficiial to baby (maybe OT
chooses?) and nursing mostly for comfort. Maybe Haberman feeder? Seems she's
tried many things and many things have been recommended. Maybe baby can feed
on the breast after a pumping to get hindmilk. Just quickly reviewing sounds
like baby is 12 pounds at 3 mos. Not too bad, and the amt of milk mom makes
sounds good; 90 - 120 mls is 3-4 oz which would be 24 to 32 oz if she pumps
8x. Definitely the baby seems to be the more "problematic" part of the
situation and needs evaluation and close monitoring, followup. Surely mom is
tired and needs lots of warm fuzzies for her great dedication to this baby.
Perhaps spending time pumping with the most efficient pump she can get and
using breast time for pleasurable times and of course nourishment too will
be beneficial to them both. I would leave it to mom as to what she would
feel the most comfortable with. This baby does not sound like a normal baby
and so bf may never be "normal". Of course, he may very well improve and bf
better, he could graduate to an sns at breast after a time?
