Dear List,
First I'd like to thank all of you for your suggestions on getting this baby to take mom's breast. They were all helpful and creative! Here's the good news: the baby is now nursing at mom's breast! This baby is now 8 weeks old and finally after 8 weeks of finger feeding, is taking in mom's nipple. Baby has a very short tongue - it just reaches the gumline - cup feeding impossible as tongue can't stick out at all. I think that this baby needed to grow into mom's nipple which was very turgid and non-compressible. Mom still needs to feed with the finger once in a while because baby gets very tired at the breast - like sucking a football! I believe that 8 weeks of pumping have soften the breast tissue as well. So if any of you see a baby who just can't latch, perhaps PATIENCE in waiting for baby to grow into mom is key.

Thanks again,

Nancy Ferland, IBCLC
