Hi Riva, The baby can possibly coaxed or gently persuaded to latch on and nurse, but not forced. (i'm not saying anyone forced him, just saying) Baby has learned to get milk from a bottle, not a terrible thing because he needs milk.I have a theory that baby didn't experience milk letting down from the breast, for some reason did not wait for it, or was not able to elicit mer. Agree with co-bathing. I would try skin to skin feeding with baby close to the breast, give some milk by bottle, then gently try switching him onto the breast, with or without nipple shield. at any sign of fussing, give some more sips from the bottle. Give baby time and patience to identity the breast as a food source too. If the milk supply is established with pumping, chances are excellent that baby will eventually breastfeed.Good luck.Susan in Minnesota, usarn ibclc
