Hi,
We allow our mother's to stay as a "Complimentary Stay"
They are discharged, sign papers, given prescriptions if needed. We have a written paper they sign with
understanding, they are no longer a patient. They are required to have their own
toiletries & medications. If an emergency, mom would need to register in ED as any outpatient would.
They are provided meals- we order in computer under the baby with comment section- complimentary stay.
Since they are discharged, they are permitted to leave, go home to shower, see other children, etc. and baby
would be in nursery.
We explain to them that in the event of High Census on our unit they may not have a room to stay in. On occasion
a Mom has had a bed on the Pediatric unit, but would stay most of the time with the baby in the Nursery.
