I have done research online (and thru the Lactnet archives) regarding the effect of hypothyroidism and Hashimoto's thyroiditis on breast milk production, and have found plenty of anecdotal 'evidence' for the lowering effect. However, I haven't found much 'good', reputable, evidence that would appeal to a gastroenterologist, who is open and interested to learn more.

Also, I know that it is important to test levels of, not just TSH, but also T3 and T4. What would be the optimal levels for these for maximizing milk production (my client's doc says her levels are 'normal', but I know that this doesn't necessarily mean that tweaking her levels wouldn't help).

Lastly - out of all the options available, what remedies have you found work best with a mom with hypothyroidism struggling to increase her milk production?

Any input on this topic would be greatly appreciated.
