Let's not delude ourselves. I have seen plenty of WIC mothers who breastfed their babies come to clinic with Kool-aid in their babies bottles (which the moms call "juice"). It is not just the bottle feeding mothers.
And you don't have to be POOR to be on WIC. It is for families with LOW INCOME. You can make about 180% of poverty level for your family size to qualify for WIC, if my memory serves me. This means the college student often qualifies and so does the mother that stops working because of complications due to pregnancy and those who are working minimum wage jobs. Many of our WIC mothers have college experience and most are not dumb (although some are uneducated). They make decisions based on the information they are given and their life experiences just like the rest of the world.
