Heather in UK and Rachel in Norway posted on how well their respective
healthcare systems, while not perfect, care for breastfeeding dyads. They
have rightly recognized the flaws and barriers in the USA system and some of
the reasons a baby in trouble might not be recognized for 4 weeks. However,
individual healthcare workers, and lay counselors who interact with these
mothers, need to take responsibiity - as one's individual assessments and
decisions will determine the outcome in most cases.
And I must add, that if the IBCLC that Susan described is indeed practicing
so dangerously, it is high time to take disciplinary action.
