I have a mom who has a 5 mo twin who's just been released from the
hospital after having closed heart surgery (one lung is deformed and
aorta(?) was too short, causing heart to swell). Mom just wants to talk
to anyone who has had a child survive heart surgery AND continued to
breastfeed. Any survivors out there or know any who'd be willing to talk
to this mom? She lives in Wichita Kansas and will call in the US.
Medications supress baby's appetite, but baby is really in need of
calories right now. Suggestions so far: Nurse every hour, nurse
healthy twin first then nurse recovering twin after or nurse both at
same time, use Dr. J'a expression technique while nursing.
BTW, if baby had not been Breastfed, he probably wouldn't have survived
until he'd had the heart defect discovered, and wouldn't have been big
enough or healthy enough to have survived the surgery! Thank God for
breastfeeding!
