I like the idea of birthday nursing as advocacy.  Unfortunately, my nursling
was born on the 31st of May, so if I only nursed in public on her birth
days, I'd only get the opportunity 7 times a year!
As the mom of a fourth breastfed child, I do think about public
breastfeeding as my personal advocacy.  Over the years of my breastfeeding
career, I've become much more comfortable nursing anywhere my nursling has a
need, so I feel that since I am comfortable and confident, I should nurse in
public whenever possible!  My littlest has been nursed in a lot of crazy
places, especially as we've chased after her older siblings.  Once, I nursed
her on a float, during a parade!  I like that folks can see me nursing
during my daily activities and hopefully see that breastfeeding can fit
right in with your normal life.
When my baby was smaller, I brought her with me every day to round in the
hospital.  I tried to always have her nursing in the sling when I saw my
postpartum patients.  Now that she's older, she's not so amenable to nursing
whenever I want her to!  (So much for nursing the older baby being only for
the mother)
