Thanks to all who wrote explaining to my old tired brain how adding formula
first, then water vs. water first, then formula could end up with different
concentrations. It's been many years since I used formula (Peter is 16
now!) but I remember using the measuring cup to measure the water, and the
scooper from the can to add the formula -- not using any markings on the
sides of the bottles. Actually, we used those disposable plastic inserts
for the bottles, and it was difficult to see the markings on the sides of
the disposable part through the plastic holder, so we measured the water in
a measuring cup. Until we had a good idea of how far up in the bottle it
went -- then we just eyeballed it. Snort.

I do believe someone has done research on what percentage of bottles of
formula in a doctor's waiting room had been mixed properly, and it was less
than 50%, as I recall.

And then there was the story about the dad getting up in the dark and mixing
a bottle using candle oil instead of water!

Last spring when we lived in Dover, it was discovered that our well water
was contaminated with E. coli. No one got sick from it, though. It was
only discovered because we were renting, the house was for sale, and the
potential new owners wanted the water tested before they bought.
