I am writing a self study module of the month for the staff nurses, and the
topic is Breastfeeding and Medications. I want it to be up to date, and I am
giving them a lot of information. One thing I do want to list is medications
that are contraindicated. The list I have is from the AAP, and lists cocaine,
bromocriptine, cyclophophamide, cyclosporine, doxorubicin, ergotamine, lithium,
methotrexate, psp, phenidione, and the drugs of abuse-amphetamines, heroin,
marijuana, nicotine, phenyclidine.
Is this up to date? I know there has been some question about lithium being
okay if levels are checked. Are there others? I got this information from the
Breastfeeding Answer Book.
Any suggestions for writing this module would be appreciated.
Thanks.
