Dear Lactnet Friends:

Here's a post from a parenting list. Details changed, of course. The subject
is "when is it alright to leave one's baby for a few days?"

"The best thing to remember is that your child deserves a happy mom and it
will be easy and fun to connect with your friends without a baby along.
Going away and having a little me time gave me more energy and stamina when
I returned also. When I got back, I felt ready and happy to be a parent
again. I left my 3 and a half month old home for a few days with his dad
just recently. I think it was much harder on me than on him. At this point
they don't really get the same kind of mom attachment they do in the next
month or so, and it's basically "out of sight, out of mind". I felt like he
was happy to see me when I got back but according to dad he didn't have any
particularly bad issues with sleep which had been my big concern."

Oh, I didn't know it was good for moms and okay for babies to be apart. Out
of sight, out of mind, right?

Sigh.
