As for the sleeping through the night thing-- I thought I was responding to
someone's question as to what I say to parents WHO DO NOT WANT TO COSLEEP
with their children. I also stated that "crying it out" was NOT the
optimal approach, and offered something that worked for ME with MY babies
and for many parents of MY patients. Just sharing ONE opinion.
Having said this, I do have to admit that we Drs are products of our
education/experience/societal surroundings, and in this area probably tend
to RESPOND to parental attitudes more than attempt to MODIFY them. In the
20-30 minutes we can spend examining/counseling in a well-child visit,
there is alot to cover, and changing a parent's mind about cosleeping at
that point is difficult. Not optimal, certainly, but our present reality.

Now, as for my "cringing" at some LACTNET postings, I really wasn't
referring to the sharing of specific instances of ignorance/frustration. I
was merely pointing out that I have perceived (in the past 2 weeks anyway)
a climate of "us vs. them" that causes me to pause before considering
recommending this site to other MDs/NPs/PAs. Just another piece of
information offered for consideration.
