Deanne's letter about those poor orphan babies is haunting me and the
responses that the formula companies won't help where it is most needed
makes me crazy. Why can't we bring this to the attention of the world
press by organizing a worldwide week wherein hospitals who receive free
formula will donate one week's supply to such orphanages ( I am sure
there are others, but we can focus on this one to make the point).
Those moms who choose not to breastfeed that particular week will be
asked to make a symbolic donation to this fund and the moms who are
breastfeeding will donate the bottles of ABM which they would have
otherwise used. ( 5 meals a day for two days, that's ten bottles,
times 250 births a week at our hospital........pretty nice donation
from Similac from us!!) Better use than sabotaging our babies
breastfeeding, don't you think?
This will bring to the public eye the reality of the ABM company
policies, and could really bring about some positive changes and help
these unfortunate kids. It would create good press for breastfeeding
because of course the advantages of human breast milk would be
emphasized and the real reason for the existence of formula.
OK, Lactbrains.....here is our chance to do something BIG.
OK, back to lurkdom. I promised myself less computer time this year.
Esther Grunis, IBCLC, just thinking of a better way to get rid of all
that ABM which is taking up space in our hospital besides pouring it
down the sink.
