I am the outreach person for the state Cleft lip and palate---tho I have only been doing this position for one year, I have seen 10 babies.  My very first one was a BF baby with just a cleft lip.  She BF well right from the start and it was proof to me, as an LC, that lips are not really involved in BF(they just need to stay out of the way)   Baby had lip repaired, and went to breast within a day after surgery--remember, the lips are not involved!
