I don't remember the full story, but I remember during the reign of George
Bush I (1988-1992)there was an evening gala where the administration was
celebrating "One Thousand Points of Light" - volunteers who had made a real
difference in the world. One of The Founding Mothers of LLL was invited and
was to receive her award on national television.
Walter Cronkite (a news anchor for CBS news, who at that time was a cultural
icon, the man America believed in because "he told us the truth" during the
political scandals of the 70's) refused to read the citation and give the
Leader her award because he would not say "breastfeeding" on national
television.
Isn't lactation consulting and its concomitant cultural, psychological,
physiologic and anatomical studies just the most interesting thing in the
world!
