Other moms often give me new ideas.

In this case, mom latched babe on first, with babe sitting almost upright. Then with babe latched, hands firmly on babe's shoulders and bum, she laid down on her back on her bed & rolled over to her side. She didn't release babe's body until he was solidly on the bed himself. Adjust pillow under mom's head. Add a pillow between her knees for comfort and stability. Worked for her.

After doing that several times, she was able to initiate the latch after lying down.

The real issue may be that she chose an epidural that didn't work in labor and ended up with a spinal headache and major back pain. She did finally get a blood patch which helped a bit. She is only comfortable nursing laying down and she doesn't really seem to be able to get a good latch in that position.
