Pt has signed release and we just need some help with this: Caucasian
light-skinned pt 1 mo pp presents with dx of mastitis from NP; has Rx of
Keflex. Rt breast AND rt trunk, anterior and posterior, are purplish-brown,
with red streaks inbetween the purple-brown masses. Imagine a bath towel
slung over her shoulder--the skin covered by the towel, from her panty line
in front to her panty line in back, is purple. The skin on her trunk where
her arm falls is streaked with red, and she says the dense purplish-brown
color started as red streaks also.

I call two doctors, both of whom decline to see her.

Two days later, while on Keflex QID, her left breast now has a sizeable red
patch on it as per patient(I haven't seen it today yet). There are no lumps
in either breast. The pain is described as burning. There is a lump at her
waist.

I am trying to get her in to see an MD. I have advised that she always has
the option of going to the ER, even if she has insufficient funds to cover
the visit.

I especially invite MDs to comment.

Arly Helm, MS, IBCLC
