I agree that things are different when dealing with a baby that
really wasn't supposed to be "out on its own" yet.  However, I see
the "premies are different" idea used to extreme sometimes.  It
becomes an excuse for making them prove themselves on bottles before
trying to breastfeed.  It is a reason for using a powdered formula
(HMF) across the board with any premie (including those only a
couple weeks early) even when mother's milk would suffice.  I'm sure
there are many other examples.
I wish the approach would be more along the lines of:
1 - This is what's normal for a healthy term baby.
2 - Can the same apply to this premie?
3 - If modifications must be made, how can they interfere the least
with what would be normal?
In other words, start with the normal model and make adaptations
only when proved necessary for this particular infant.
