Hi all,

I just got a fresh look at what Demerol does. Yesterday my 6'3", 200+ pound
56-year old husband had a severe back spasm or kidney stone (not sure which)
that caused so much pain that I took him to a hospital emergency room. Once
heart problems were ruled out, the doctor gave him 25 mg Demerol plus 12.5
mg phernergan via IV. For the next 6-7 hours he (my husband, not the doctor)
was completely out of it - when he was "awake," he was unfocused and
semi-coherent; mostly he slept. Demerol's adult half-life is supposed to be
only about 3 hours, but I can tell you that 18 hours later he is still
feeling weird and has no appetite.

Seeing what this did to my husband has strengthened my (already-strong)
resolve to keep talking and preaching and warning about what labor
medications do to babies. No wonder this drug causes so many problems in
neonates! Yikes!
