The only thing I have ever mentioned to moms in this vein, when they ask,
is that a lot of women's antiperspirant/deodorants in the USA are *very*
strongly scented, and a nursing baby would have his nose awfully close to
mom's armpit for extended periods of time.  It's not so much about
confusing the baby, but nobody wants to be inhaling that all day, so a
switch to unscented could be considered a courtesy ;)  Avoiding soap in the
shower is more about not drying skin out and getting itchy, in my
experience, since summer babies = lots of sweat and lots of short, cool
showers.
