Lisa, I didn't mean to criticize your article, specifically, I was just
making a comment about the issue in general, which was originally triggered
by your article.  And yes, I understand that nicotine is one of the most
addictive substances known to humans, and that we should all have compassion
for people who are addicted and can't quit.  At the same time, with OTHER
health issues, people are simply and unequivocally told STOP SMOKING.  But
with breastfeeding, people get namby-pamby -- quit if you can, go outside to
smoke if you can, etc.
This is how breastfeeding is viewed in so many cases.  It's just like the
materials for how to protect your baby from SIDS -- Always put your baby on
his back to sleep, never put heavy blankets in the crib with your baby,
breastfeed "if you can."
