I also prefer gently pinching the nose to get an older baby who is
delibarately biting to open its mouth. My son laughed at "stern talking" and
being put down. He thought fake (or real) screaming or crying was even
funnier. I tried LLLs "pull baby into the breast" technique, but he could
still breathe pretty well and would chomp down even harder or quickly slide
off the nipple - OUCH! I have rarely found it to be all that helpful for
people in my group. When you pinch the nose they HAVE to open their mouths
widely and immediately. It probably depends how sensitive the baby is. My son
got a big charge out of my reactions when he bit me - nose pinching was the
only thing that finally stopped him completely.
