We have a pharmacy around here called Pharmacie Jean-Coutu. It is one
chain that is across Québec, and parts of New Brunswick and Ontario.

They produce a pamphlet on infant feeding and pretty much sabotage
breastfeeding in it, chock full of falseties. They pay little
attention to breastfeeding in it other than these bits of
misinformation, and 2/3 or more of this pamphlet deals with
formula-feeding practices. Of course, PJC (as it is known as) makes
very little money off moms who bf (a rare pump or pack of nursing pads
they buy, or ok, a few bottles here or there) but makes lots of money
off formula and many more bottles there too.

So obviously their interest, their invested interest, is in promoting
formula through and through.

Example from the pamphlet: "the mother's diet is very important WRT
the quality of milk she produces." That kind of misinformation.

Well, our regional bf promotional committee president had a long talk
with PJC's chief of advertising yesterday, trying to get him to see
how this is hurting bfing moms, giving out such misinformation. He
finally said "ok, we've got 200 000 of these circulating. When
they're all gone, I'll call you back to talk about how to word it".

After about 45 minutes, she said something along the lines of "we use
this pamphlet in our bf support groups as a visual aide when talking
of all the misinformation that is out circuling about that bf moms
come across that can sabotage their bfing". The PJC advertising chief
took a total of 3 seconds before saying to her out and out that he
promised to recall every single pamphlet on infant feeding and to not
re-distribute them again if we promise to stop using them as our
example of how much misinformation is out there. Not only that, but
he sent out a fax in the middle of the night (last night) to do so and
every single PJC outlet is getting 4 e-mails today through saturday to
make sure that all those pamphlets are pulled, and not re-distributed.
They will be working on a new pamphlet, aided by our contact person
for the greater Québec regional area (for help on the wording).

I was really excited to see this announcement in my mailbox last
night! ;-)
