Rachel,
In the last couple of years I have worked with 4 babies with a soft
cleft palate. Two I followed for quite some time. None of them were able to
be fed with breast or tube at the breast. Although each of them could
suckle at the breast, none of them could take in adequate amounts of milk.
All of the mothers fed with a bottle. All but one used a regular bottle the
other used a haberman. None of the babies ever got back to the breast for
various reasons. The mom who used the haberman was the most dedicated to
breastfeeding and pumped for 9 months and bottlefed her baby. She is
willing to talk to other mothers about her experience. Email me privately
if you would like her name and number.
