I never had a problem with this - I became a regular donor between babies 2
& 3. Stopped during my pregnancy, started again while nursing (they never
asked - most blood banks in the US have about 40 questions they ask at each
donation). In fact ds #3 had allergy issues and I once donated during a
blood drive (I was called to come in - to have people donating so others
will walk in) and had my 2 older kids walk my youngest around the mall, they
brought him back upset & crying so I tried to nurse him (during the blood
donation) but realized he was upset because he must have gotten milk and had
a runny, dirty diaper irriating his bottom! He was kicking and the blood
bank person had her daughter holding the needle in my arm. (I think this
may be the same one who sent a friend away when she brought her infant to
her regular blood donation :-). )

I was also donating during the year of tandem nursing after my 4th was born.
They usually check iron levels before each donation (so iron stores from
nursing shouldn't be an issue) and now that I donate platlets they check all
kids of stuff before the donation. The only issue is pregnancy because, as
I was told once at another blood bank, your blood is what feeds the fetus
and so you need every drop for the baby.

I hope this helps with this issue.
