I am not associated with Prolacta; however, I can tell you that milk banks
belonging to the Human Milk Banking Association of North America (the
professional organization for all non-profit donor milk banks) do not
compensate with cash or gifts for donor milk. Part of the donor screening
process involves a self-reported health history and there should be no
incentive to omit or falsify information. Additionally, there should be no
incentive for a mother to donate her milk instead of providing it to her own
infant. Donors should only give excess milk and for altruistic reasons.
Non-profit milk banks operate for charitable purposes, helping to ensure
that a limited resource is allocated in an ethical and safe
nner. --Sarah Bradley, Mothers' Milk Bank at Austin
