I was talking to a mom to be yesterday who is planning on breastfeeding. She
casually mentioned that a friend of hers is a teacher here in Texas and was
informed last week by her principal that while the school district had to
provide her a place to pump under the law, they did not have to provide her
with the time to do so. Mom to be is understandably nervous about facing
similar circumstances! This sounds to me like it would violate the federal
labor law regarding madated breaks etc, but I am no legal expert by any
means.

What can be done about this? I suggested that the pumping mother seek a good
attorney out to write a nice letter but I wouldn't know where to begin to
find one who knows much about breastfeeding laws - can anyone help? I have
sent her the information available from the LLL site on the Texas laws, but
it really is not well defined or spelled out.

Thanks!
Michelle Meeks, RN
