June,

I just spoke with our mom who does body piercings. She said most women take their jewelry out but if she keeps it in she suggests the barbell with a small end on it. The barbell actually has screw on ends vs. the rings which aren't screwed in. She could easily take the barbell out prior to each feed and then re-insert afterwards. If she chooses to leave it in during the feeding (which she doesn't recommend and took her own out) check to make sure the end is screwed on tightly. imho I would think it would be similar to eating with a tongue piercing as far as the baby is concerned but with the obvious bigger risk of choking.

She also gave me a website that has a medical expert at the site and has master piecer where you can ask questions. www.safepiercing.org I hope this info. helps you and the mom.

Praying for good results tomorrow
