Good early morning from very snowy Vermont, where we are in the midst of a
storm, and awaiting a second tomorrow....

I also agree with Suzie... And the main reason that I started Lactnet was
not to provide mother to mother support, because I knew that Lactnet could
not properly DO that. There was LLL and many other places where mothers can
and should go for help. I also did not want the people on this list bogged
down with helping more mothers here. I wanted it to be a quiet and "doable"
list for professionals who want to connect with other professionals, and who
want to discuss situations that they do not understand with others who may
be wiser, or who have already "been there, done that," or who know the
research and can share evidence based research, or just a shoulder to cry
on...if need be. We have been accused by some to be a place where what kind
of chocolate we like is discussed, our looks in a bathing suit, other
personal kinds of things, and we have, in the past been publically roasted
for the informal nature of our list. However, I think that was simply sour
grapes...because of the fact that someone else gave birth to the idea that
is Lactnet first, and so I don't worry for that type of criticism or where
it originates from. It slides off my back...because I know that what
Lactnet is, and has grown into, is a beautiful and dynamic list

. The list is as good as it is because of the members....who are generous,
gifted, and devoted to the subject of helping mothers breastfeed better, and
more comfortably. I am devoted to the list and helping it work better, even
after 14, almost 15 years of doing this as listmother... (March 1995 was
when I began)..and I must at this point publically thank the other
volunteers who "mother" this list when I am weary and cannot read another
thing. Rachel Myr, my wonderful Norwegian friend, who has on many occasions
saved my backside with her wit and patience and stick to it ness. Karleen
Gribble, my down under friend, who I have not had the good fortune to meet
yet (at least if I did, my menopausal brain is not allowing me to remember
that)...who is so faithful and patient and constant. Kathy, my Maryland
friend, closer by, smart, savvy, (as they all are) and able to do a million
tasks at once, including parent a child with challenges, and Linda, my
traveling listmother, on the go, world wide traveler, one who sees mothers
all over the world and who has a broad base of experience to help us.... And
to Melissa Vickers in Tennessee and Karen Zeretzke who were listmothers for
a LONG time and who helped us for years and still do offer advice when
asked.

Thank to all of you, list readers and listowner volunteers, for helping
Lactnet to survive where other lists falter and fail. Happy Holidays, and
the best New Year possible......I appreciate you all, and send you good
tidings for the upcoming holiday season.

With great affection, Kathleen Bruce, RN IBCLC LLL
