" I suspect what the author is talking about are special protein hydrolyzed
formulas like Nutramigen and Pregestimil., and not all formulas in general.
These formulas are easier to digest than the conventional formulas (And MUCH
more expensive). They have an odor like partially digested food. I work
for WIC, and see so many formula feed babies go on trial of formula after
 formula....none of them working.
Oh and this special rice formula is the formula companies answer to people
adding cereal to bottles to thicken their babies feeds for the same purpose.

Formula feeding can be so complicated!"

I have always thought that to be Baby-Friendly an institution should be mandated to teach the "art" of AF. A series of classes should be required wgixh teach how to safely feed AIM, how to recognize allergies, information about the cascade of one brand to the next, info about recognizing and treating ear infections, gastric disturbances, etc. Info to recognize signs of diabetes, etc. How to feed bottles safely, including beginning with a few cc's after birth and increasing to avoid overfeeding, etc.
Anyway, reading June's comments made me think about how much bf "literature" is written and distributed by AIM companies. In this way, they control public education and perceptions. So.....why don't we do the same thing w/ AIM? We should publish brochures about bottlefeeding which are written by pro-bf docs, delineating all of the hazards of AF ending w/ "and when after reading this, you can't bring yourself to bottlefeed, you can always bf.. " And you don't have to feel guilty, or whatever. You know, use the anti-bf'ing propaganda against itself. Just a thought at 2:30 am. Maybe I should go to bed?
