Dear Martina, we have the same problems in the US. The good info and
policies are there (AAP statements etc) and some people just ignore them or
don't bother to learn new ideas :-( I think it is a human failing, most
don't like change or being told they need to learn something new/different
or that their personal experiences weren't the best they could have been. (I
bottle fed and my kids are OK, etc.).

I do think it is sad that people in positions of power to write national
policies are so limited in their visions or have other agendas. I think
IBLCE's and ILCA's statements are quite clear on the responsibilities for
Lactation Consultants - we treat the whole dyad and things in the dyad's
life that influence the mom's ability to adequately breastfeed her baby.
Unfortunately we got into the mess we are in today (regarding BF) by
listening to "experts," not moms.

In the last few days I've read appalling stats on where BF is in China
today. It's sad and scarey that babies and children always come last in
society's plans, whether it is health care or schooling or...whatever. Pat
