In my small community hospital, phototherapy is used only in cases of
extreme hyperbilirubinia (such as with my babies). Normally, the staff is
reasonably pro-breastfeeding. However, as soon as there is any "problem,"
breastfeeding becomes an afterthought (when in my opinion, especially in the
case of too much bili, it should be top priority). This is why I am seeking
an option for in my home should this baby, like his.her siblings, have the
abnormal, severe jaundice that results from ABO incompatibility. I do not
want breastfeeding to be interrupted because a nurse thinks I shouldn't be
holding my baby or thinks a bottle gets the feeding done faster. My first
two experiences were so terrible and I was really powerless to defend myself
and my babies from the anti-breastfeeding priorities of the nursing staff.

I'm sorry this has gone off-topic. I thought this would be a good place to
ask for resources so that I can avoid the hospital stay and interruption in
breastfeeding that came with it with my first two babies. I appreciate the
resources that I did get and will explore those in my local area.

Thanks,
Diana in NY
