My first thought is that this study doesn't go into how many women push
for 4 hours. How many babies are delivered by vacuum extraction or
forceps? How many women have so much fluid forced into them that they
are engorged right after delivery and their baby never latches on and
they never obtain a full milk supply? But they were pain free. And they
"wouldn't do it any other way".
This is the age of the "I am a coward and proud of it" woman. Do we
wonder at them not being able to breastfeed? It's too much trouble, too
much effort and "I'm after the easy (not the best) way". Trying to
explain to them that after the first few weeks breastfeeding IS the easy
way, falls on deaf ears. "Just bring me a bottle dear!" I hear this day
after day.
Sorry for the rant. But this is a different type of woman than 30 years
ago. Will the pendulum ever swing back, I wonder?
