I have no studies to back this up but I agree with Rachel and here is my
reasoning to the same conclusion: On-line mothers find: too much
information, wrong information and conflicting information. Mothers often
need in person assistance (or at the very least an on the phone consult with
someone who knows how to listen, ask the right questions, support and refer
out or for a consult when needed.

As a private practice LC, I work with too many moms who have tried for weeks
to find the right info that will help them by looking on-line and getting
more and more confused and complicating their situation considerably. I
find this in other situations too but I'll stick to the on-line aspect right
now.

Mothers need to know that hand-holding is OK. They don't have to be the
tough-mom who can do it all. They need to know it is acceptable and
preferable to ask for help - but many do not feel that way (how they were
raised...our society, etc.). The moms I work with know that I am there for
them 7 days a week - they can almost always reach me by phone (and if they
get my voicemail they know I will call them back asap). This is something
that gives them the strength they need, the warm caring support from someone
who knows how to help them and who will walk with them hand in hand to get
them to where they want to be. The internet does NOT and never will have
that capability.

Warmly,
