Years and years ago the directors of central sterile informed our hospital that the only acceptable soap to use on pump kits was castile soap. That right now is in short supply and we are using baby shampoo as a substitute. If it's safe for babies, I think it would be safe for pump kits.

Subject: Soaps used on Pump Kits in Hospital

Greetings!

A colleague of mine asked an interesting question. Our hospital recently changed our soap dispensers to have foaming soap "with moisturizers". She is wondering if this soap may leave residue on the pump kits, and was thinking it may be better to give the parents the "baby wash" to use instead, or to request castile soap, which we used to have in the stock room...

Any thoughts on the matter? I think I'm going to ask the company that provides our breast pumps as well...

Thanks!
