Hi LactNetters:

I have decided to reply to several of you in one message to save you all
time and multiply entries. I hope this is acceptable, and even
convenient...but let me know if its better to do each one independently.
Ok, here goes:
---------------------

To: Noriko Kito from Japan

Welcome and thankyou for adding more diversity to this Lactation Family.
One of my star nursing moms here is a gal named Makiko Yamamoto de Mier y
Teran, from Japan (duh, guess that was obvious, right) married to a
mexican.
She has nursed wonderfully and her little son Taishi Francisco (8mo) in
Japan meeting all his relatives on that side of the world.

Marie Davis and Kathleen A.: Equipment for BF

Your comments about how BF has been complicated by so much equipment and
how I shouldn't rush to introduce 'things' into the hospital setting here
was extreeeeemly reassuring. I guess I'll continue with cup feeding and not
feel guilty. Is DOES work, and very well. Costs are nil, too.
You both have given me the guts to confess that: (here it comes!)

*I have never operated an electric breastpump,
and am not even sure that I've even seen one!*

I do use the hand-operated ones when required, however. There! I've said
it. Believe me, everyone, I've been feeling like an LC-retard and was
afraid to confess that I've been helping mom's for 16 yrs. without any
technical 'stuff'. Maybe I can still stay in the game, huh?

Thank you all for creating a forum where we can just be ourselves.

Roberta

P.S. Lisa Marasco - please tell your son Ryan that I've never even seen an
electric breastpump, either, so he's got the jump on me, too!

To: Kathy Rubin

Welcome! You bring lots of great experience to us all. By the way, the mom
in your story must be from another planet. She deserve the BF World Prize
for perseverance! I was impressed.

 Talk to you soon, R.

To: Phyllis Adamson and Patricia Drazin and Kathleen, etc. etc.
Re: Paper, paper ane more paper

A million thanks for all your computer filing tips....am I the only
disorganized one out here?

-----------------

To: Linda Smith - Queen of Ross Lab. headquarters....Ohio has several queens
                    now! There's Martha, too!

Is your invite. to Ohio for real? (just kidding!) I'll give you fair
warning if I ever come your way.
Where in Mexico was your son for 6 mo.? Studying Spanish?
And most importantly, tell me more about your spanish video, content,
length, etc. and how I can order a copy. I'm tired of my same slide show
for pregnant mommys.

Ta-ta,

RE: Funny Milk (Linda Smith of Ohio)

Moral: You can put milk in the pot, but not pot in the milk!

(Is anyone out there gagging?..... not on the pot, that is, on the joke)

sorry, friends....R.

To: Melissa Vickers, Court Jester... and All Hamster owners

What a fabulous brainstorm you've had! Shirin, my 11 yr. old has a fat and
sassy male hamster (boy, are male hamsters 'hung' -excuse my frankness -
but if a human had similar equipment, in proportion to his body, that
is....well, there'd be a lot of men in wheelchairs) and we're always taping
used toiletpaper rolls together to make hamster-runs.

Now I know what to do with all those left-over pump-kit tubes......Voila!
Hamster-heaven!
And it will be a riot to actually be able to SEE him zooming through the tubes.

Thanks go to Dan's friend for inadvertently sparking your new marketing plan.
bye,
Roberta, (Flash's grandmother...not Flash Gordon, Flash the Hamster!)

P.S. Melissa, forget about revolutionizing the Breastpump industry - stick
to improving the quality and physical condition of Hamsters. Just a
suggestion.

TO: Debby Boehle Re: Quitting Moms

After swinging between overt fanaticism and deep disappointment - I finally
learned the hard way that.......

You can dance, sing, cajole and cavort....but after offering a reasonable
list of advantages, benefits and blessings, just let her go...in peace AND
with a smile.

You will gain more for the Cause of Breastfeeding, and retain the mothers
esteem and positive memories of her dealings with you by diplomatically
accepting her exit from the arena of BF.

Plus, (BIG plus) she will be sure to recommend you to her friends, etc,
because you accepted her as she is: A mother who tried BF, and did the best
she could.
(This may not be, in our LC opinion, the best she might have done....but it
was the best SHE was capable of. Important difference, no?)

Just my humble perspective on "failure" to success with a mother.

Did you all know that: Crawling is to walking...as failure is to success!

Lisa:

As I finish reading the most recently sent LactNet Digest and writing my
various comments on the contents, I find your wonderful sharing on how you
handle these moms. I totally agree with your style...and also feel that
our skills as people-handlers are equally as important as our skills as BF
problem-solvers....maybe even more so!

To: Patricia Drazin and listening to doctors.

Thanks for your encouragement for Wed.'s 8am presentation.
Although my time is tight, your idea of attending some of the other
sessions that will follow in this 18-hr. course on BF at the hosp. is a
capital idea. I'll just try to find time.
If we want doctors to listen to us, it's only fair to try to listen to them.
I'll let you all know how it went.

To: Anne - the TV Star in Michigan

What a great p.r. job for BF you did - with the help of your mom and babe.
I've found that press (TV & newpapers both) often get some of the facts
either twisted or wrong, but the general outcome is always positive. More
exposure for BF and normal lifestyles....normal meaning behaving as the
mammals that we are!

Congrats to you, Anne

RE: Daycare

Kathleen, your comment about 'do they use gloves to handle dirty diapers'
was right on the mark...and got a chuckle out of me, too.

Maybe we all ought to just zip ourselves into Ziplock plastic bags and
forget about living. Sure would be boring, to say the least.

Do you think we'll need a prescription for kleenex, rubbergloves (they use
to be used to save us from dishpan hands) and plasticbags - because they
are all for medical uses? I wonder.....

Roberta
P.S. You say the cows were hot? I know some hot horses, opps, I
guess those were some hot TIPS on the horses. (nah, I don't *really* bet)

P.S.#2 You just sent out a T-SHIRT ALERT. Gosh, are we going to
start having T SHIRT WARNINGS & T SHIRT RAIDS, too? I'm scared!

To: Everyone!

Let me know if this manner of posting bothers any of you....
or does it actually saves space and time?
After all, my heading appears only once, and you still all get to see what
comments I make to each individual, so the final objective is preserved. To
tell you the truth, it was faster and easier for me. I just put my reply on
the top of the screen...and the LactNet Digest on the bottom...and scroll
them each as I need to. This is the first time I tried this, and I really
would like your input.

Three weeks from today I fly to Phoenix from Mexico!
Haven't seen my parents in 15 months - its more than time. (They live near
Scottsdale in Mesa and I'll be driving a rental car back and forth to ILCA
everyday -ugh)

I'll be hanging around the Hyatt all day and night, you can bet on it.
