Due to AOL problems, I am a little behind in posts but scanned them all and
read the ilca stuff. So, in response to Jay's concerns:

<< With all the problems with this By-Laws and Policies and information
being changed in such a drastic way, it is making ILCA look like it is
slipping into an ethical waste pile.>>
Jay and others,
I am sorry some feel this way. After talking to several board members and
participating in a conf. call, I truly believe that the best interests of
ILCA and its members were at heart. The letter from the board said it well,
that they regret removing the formula money part from the bylaws to the
policy book. This will be remedied. The bylaws committee are a great group.
I am confident this issue will be resolved satisfactorily.

<< How they were inclusive for everyone involved in BF (you didn't HAVE to be
IBCLC to be a member (voting or not)), >>
See other posts re is ILCA an org. for professional LC's vs a BF Advocacy
org.? We really need to think about this one. Then the next question is: Is
the IBCLC credential the credential for prof. LCs. These we must answer as an
org. and for ourselves. Think about the 3rd party reimbursement issues,
consumer protection issues (can just anybody hang out a shingle?), standards,
and ethics.

<< had nothing to do with ABM companies>>
The protection from involvement with ABM co. is still there in a conflict of
interest clause, I think, and board members and reps sign, etc.

<< I really feel that an organization such as this NEEDS to be inclusive
in its membership with respect to those who are involved with BF and those
members need to ALL be voting members. >>
Again, this depends on what the purpose of the org. is. I kinda like the
idea of regular and associate members.

<<As far as discussing ILCA on Lactnet, what better place than where all can
see what is really going on with an organization that has this much
potential? >>
With respect to the board, I agree that polite discussion on lactnet is OK
and I've said so before. But I think the point is not only to discuss it on
lactnet, but to contact a board member, rep, etc and discuss with them. Raise
questions, concerns etc with the people in the actual org.

Respectfully submitted,
