Dear colleagues,

I am sure that I am not the only one here on Lactnet who is disturbed by the
messages being sent by the pictures on this page:
http://www.ilca.org/i4a/pages/index.cfm?pageid=1
and the title of this blog:
http://lactationmatters.wordpress.com/2011/09/15/clinicians-in-the-trenches-colette-acker/

What I am getting from this is that
a) lactation consultants are hospital medical staff
and
b) milk production is the primary concern.

As I said, this is MY perception only. It is quite possible that the intent
is different - and I HOPE that is so! Nevertheless, perception is important,
because no matter what the intent, it is the message being received.

I am an IBCLC in private practice.
I help mothers to help their babies breastfeed.
I also help other breastfeeding helpers, though presentations and articles,
etc, to help mothers to help their babies breastfeed.

Yes, it is about BREASTFEEDING, not just lactation.
It is about one of the most intimate human relationships, nurturing a baby.
THAT is the message I wish to convey.

warmly, norma, who is also not thrilled about the title "Journal of Human
Lactation."
