I wouldn't start a baby on iron because of a hemoglobin of 9.3 at 4 months.
This could easily be in the range of normal. Even if the lower limit is
written as 9.5, there is a variability in lab results.  I would leave it
alone. I'll bet without extra iron, you'll see his hemoglobin rising in the
next couple of months. Besides, there are more causes of anemia than iron
deficiency, and without doing a ferritin, treating anemia "on spec" is not a
good idea.
