I would like to agree with Dr. Wight. As an MD, I expect to be told (and
often am) about things I write or do that the people around me have
concerns about.

I'd also like to say that of all the credentials I have earned, I am most
proud of my IBCLC. I think that my certification has made a huge
difference in the the way I practice medicine and in turn, has had a
positive effect on the policies and practices in my area.

I got interested in getting my certification because of a RN/IBCLC who
corrected something I had said, and in that discussion, learned that I
didn't know nearly enough about breastfeeding. You all have the potential
to positively impact the knowledge base of another health care provider.

I'm going to make a personal plea: take it easy on the doctor bashing.
We're expected to know alot of things and we all have our own gifts that
we bring to the profession of medicine. I know that we are not perfect,
but there are many of us out there working very hard every day to promote,
support and protect breastfeeding, educating our colleagues and working on
many levels to fix the problems you have identified.

Those of you in my area, I'd love to help and be your advocate in the MD
world.
