"A mother of a 9 month old child took (fenugreek) for about 2 weeks for her
low milk supply (was just getting over the flu) - noticed an increase in her
milk supply, stopped taking it, and shortly afterward had a miscarriage."
Another possible explanation is that mother's supply dwindled due to
pregnancy, and when the embryo died, the hormones of pregnancy dropped,
allowing milk supply to improve. Bleeding and expulsion of products of
conception are often delayed after the pregnancy has stopped developing due
to fetal demise.
Anyway, the fenugreek may have had nothing to do with the milk supply OR the
miscarriage. Of course to be on the extremely safe side, all women who have
sexual intercourse should be questioned about the possibility of pregnancy
before undergoing any medical procedure or being prescribed any treatment -
just like they should all take folate supplements and avoid recreational
intoxicants, which of course *all* women exposed to the possibility of
pregnancy do, always (TIC).
I hope this mother can forgive herself and concentrate on healing. Everyone
is allowed one early miscarriage without changing their obstetric risk
status from 'low'. If OTOH she has a history of many such events, it is
even less likely that the fenugreek caused this one.
