I would caution those who feel that drinking a lot of water would make
someone's edemas go away. Particularly in someone who has potential liver
disease this may not be true. If she has advanced liver disease for
instance, with scarring of the liver, there are homonal changes which will
promote water retention thus cause people to have edema and ascites (fluid
in the belly). Much of this has to do with the hormone aldosterone which
levels can be high in patients with liver diseases. If a diuretic needs
to be used in this patient would choose Aldactone which is an
antialdosterone agent, minimally excreted in milk and according to Dr
Hale's book has minimal effect on supply.
Good luck
Maryelle
