I understand that some are using Creamatocrits not only for NICU babies, and
to assure adequate caloric intake when volume must be limited, but also when
seeing full-term babies.  I'd like to learn more about this.  

 

How would I use this information, as I don't know what is "normal" for that
mother and baby?  Are there grids like weight gain ones to give us this
information?  Based on what?  Age of baby?  Weight of baby? 

 

I did a search in Lactnet
(http://community.lsoft.com/scripts/wa-LSOFTDONATIONS.exe) and am as
confused as ever according to these comments.  Some have creamatocrits in
their office, but report that the range of fat is much higher than "normal"
in ALL the moms they tested,  whether babies were gaining weight or not.

I have to admit there have been times that I wished I had a creamatocrit -
with babies whose moms seemed to have adequate milk production but did not
gain.  So I'm not against learning about this.  

 

Just want to avoid adding another expense to an office that may not be
necessary.
