Hi All,

I got a call from a mom yesterday who delivered #2 2 days ago. She
developed during pregnancy what the MD called a lactating adenoma. She
wanted any and all information I could give her about this. I looked it up
in Lawrence's book and in Riordan/Auerbach's book. I found descriptions of
adenomas but I did not find an answer in how to deal with them. Do they
affect lactation? The mother's doctor told her it would go away when her
milk came in. Excuse my ignorance but if this is true, please let me know.
The MD did aspirate the lump and removed "cells" per mom. I asked mom to
find out what kind of cells, as Lawrence's text lists 5 different kinds of
adenomas based on their contents. I would assume that treatment of the
adenoma would depend on what it it made up of. I told her to use ice for
swelling and pain. I don't even know if this is good advice given that I am
not sure what it is. Any input would be great from all you high powered minds!!

Sincerely,
