I just caught up on about a week's worth of archives, and I must say that Jan
has most clearly articulated what my opinion is on this subject. I honestly
don't know what the Wisconsin Board of Nursing says on the subject, but if
it's not within my scope of practice as an RN to share my knowledge with
mothers I guess I'd be ready to dump my RN credential.

<<So the options are to change the practice acts, or refer to physicians or
certified herbalists or certified homeopaths and other folks who are trained
and recognized authorities in the field. Or take the risk, and hope one gets
away with it.>>

As soon as I have any certified herbalists or certified homeopaths or trained
physicians in my neck of the woods I will be HAPPY to refer mothers to them!
Personally, I feel woefully inadequate in this area, but learn what I can,
check my references, and share with mothers what I think might be helpful. I
can't imagine being so nervous about lawsuits that I withhold information
from my clients, but I suspect that's a personality thing.

I was wondering if this discussion was going to get into "diagnosing," and
will be interested to hear Jan's opinion on this one. I brooded a bit after
hearing Priscilla Bornmann's talk on ethical issues last summer at ILCA . . .
