I see a lot of tongue and lip-tied babies, and thankfully we have a dentist here in Ottawa who will revise both by laser and he is very good at what he does. I am consistently finding that the worst of the discomfort from the procedure lasts about 24 hrs. For very young babies, they don't seem to be as bothered and are usually fine with lots of breastfeeding and skin-to-skin contact. I am finding that the older the babies are, the more discomfort they seem to have. I also find that no matter what the age, the lip-tie revision causes more discomfort than the tongue. For older babies, or babies that seem to be uncomfortable, some of my clients choose to give Tylenol (or ibuprofen if baby is over the age of 2 months), and some choose to use homeopathy, both with good results.

Warmly,
Fleur Bickford BSc., RN, IBCLC
