I guess she IS tired of pumping - 9 wks and still her baby is unstable. She
needs alot of support. This situation has got to be so stressful for all
involved.
I would recommend 1st KANGAROO CARE if at all possible. Can baby do any
nursing or even licking at all? This mom needs to be able to cuddle and
nuzzle her baby as much as possible. Then I would recommend one of the
really excellent pumps; the one I am familiar with is the Medela Classic. I
feel it gives better yield than the Lactina in these situations. Mom may
want to try a different flange and/or add hand expression. Then of course
she could add the galactagogues (oatmeal, fenugreek, blessed thistle,
reglan) if desired. The baby could be given donor milk as supplement if mom
does not make full supply. Also mom could explore her own health status like
r/o hypothyroid. Best wishes to her and baby.
